Biography |
Peter G. Bailey Electronics Inc. |
Prior to Pete joining the EI team he was an Engineer in the Manufacturing Process and Quality
Departments at GE Aircraft Engines. He had joined General Electric in 1972 and his final 12 years
with GE was spent concentrating on shot peening. Before joining GE, Pete helped in the development
of dispersion-strengthened mill products and the applications of industrial gases to steel making.
Other than is life experiences he holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell
University and a MS degree in Metallurgy from the Stevens Institute of Technology. |
Kumar Balan Wheelabrator Group |
Kumar is employed by the Wheelabrator Group, Burlington, Ontario in Applications, Sales and
Marketing. Kumar has a Master of Business Administration degree from York University, Toronto and
a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, from India. Kumar’s initial employment with Wheelabrator Corporation
was in 1990 in Bombay, India, where he worked as a Design and Applications Engineer. Kumar directed a team
of six engineers at the Wheelabrator Corp. for ‘concept to commissioning’ of Asia’s first automated Rail
Car Shot Blasting Plant for the Indian Railways. Kumar has also been employed by the Pangborn Corporation,
India as an Applications Manager also responsible for technology transfer.
During 1995-2000, Kumar worked
for Blastworks Inc., a Canadian company that specialized in Automated Airblast Machinery. After a detour in
Industrial Automation relating to robotic material Handling systems and CNC Fabrication machinery, in July
of 2004 Kumar returned to the Wheelabrator Group in Burlington, Ontario where he now handles Applications,
Sales and Marketing of Automated Airblast equipment to the North American market. Kumar was awarded The
Shot Peener of the Year Award at the 16th annual Shot Peening and Blast Cleaning Workshop in 2006. |
Michele Bandini Peen Service |
Managing Director of Peen Service, Michele has been involving in Shot Peening since
receiving his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1990. He has been involved in several studies concerning
either shot blasting or shot peening surface treatments and in particular the shot peening application
and benefits as R&D engineer of Norblast. He has been co-author of several thesis concerning Shot Peening
Process, Benefits and Application. Michele teaches at the Mechanical Engineering University of Bologna
and Milan in Italy. He is in charge of the shot peening technology transfer in the company Ipar Blast,
an associate company of Peen Service in Spain and starting from 2005 he will also teach at the Mechanical
Engineering University of San Sebastian in Spain. He is also a specialist of residual stress measurements
with the X-Ray Diffraction Technique and offers his knowledge and experience to the design department of
Peen Service’s customers and cooperates with them to solve their problems by shot peening. |
Bill Barker Progressive Technologies |
Sales Engineer, Progressive Technologies, Grand Rapids , MI . Bill received his BS
degree in Physics in 1983. He then served seven years in the US Navy as an instructor at the Naval Nuclear
Power School as well as a Submarine Qualified Officer aboard the nuclear submarine USS George C. Marshall
(SSBN 654). He has worked in technical sales and application engineering at Progressive since 1991, focused
on the processes of shot peening, grit blasting, thermal spray coating and high pressure waterjet stripping.
Bill has responsibility for serving Progressive's customers in the aerospace OEM and MRO industries. |
Dave Barkley Electronics Inc. |
Dave Barkley is the Engineering Manager at Electronics Incorporated (EI) in Mishawaka,
Indiana. Mr. Barkley has an EET degree from Purdue University and his past experience includes
working as a Control System Integrator and Senior Product Engineer. Mr. Barkley's current work
responsibilities include directing the EI engineering staff, overseeing new product development
and leading workshop and on-site training classes. In addition to his work at EI, Mr. Barkley
is an adjunct professor in the EET and MET departments at Purdue University School of Technology.
His ability to explain complex concepts in easy-to-understand terms and expertise in hands-on
training have made Mr. Barkley's classes popular at EI's U.S. and international workshops and
on-site training programs. |
Dr. Mohammed Belassel Proto Manufacturing |
Dr. Mohammed Belassel, was graduated from Polytechnic School of Algiers in the field of metallurgy in 1989,
obtained Master degree in 1990 then Ph.D from ENSAM Paris in the field of Mechanics and Materials in 1994, where
he specialized in residual stress measurement in two-phase materials using diffraction techniques. He held a
research position at ENSAM Paris for over a year where he worked on different research projects and advanced
measurement techniques. In 1996, he joined Proto Manufacturing team where he is currently a R&D Manager. He played
a key role in the field of residual stress measurements and mechanical testing, including design of equipment,
training, advance software development and simulation, measurement methodologies development and fatigue testing.
He authored, co-authored and presented many scientific papers at the international conferences. |

The ever elusive Michael Brauss lives a secretive life in Oldcastle Ontario while working for
Proto Manufacturing. Through vague conversations we were able to learn that he enjoys ice fishing
and an occasional illegal game of lawn darts. |

Dr. John Cammett Cam-Met Inc. |
John Cammett, PhD, PE, is the owner of Cam-Met, Inc., a consulting firm that specializes
in resolving metal and metal process problems. Dr. Cammett recently retired from the Naval
Aviation Depot in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Dr. Cammett served a total of thirteen years
at the Naval Aviation Depot as the Metals and Ceramics Branch Chief in the Materials
Engineering Division. In addition to managerial responsibilities, Dr. Cammett¢s technical
activities with the Navy included: Analysis of aircraft component failures, development
of repair/rework process methods and technical support of depot manufacturing operations.
Previous to his tenure with the U.S. Navy, Dr. Cammett was employed for 20 years with
Metcut Research Associates in fatigue, fracture mechanics, residual stress measurement,
metallurgical research and failure analysis. He also worked five years at the General
Electric Company specializing in fatigue, low cycle fatigue and fracture mechanics
properties of aircraft engine materials. Since his retirement, Dr. Cammett has worked
with Lambda Research, Inc. on research and development of low plasticity burnishing.
Dr. Cammett also consults for Electronics Incorporated (EI) on shot peening processes,
writes articles for EI's magazine, The Shot Peener, and conducts EI workshop and
on-site training classes.
Dr. Cammett received his BS and MS in Metallurgical Engineering from Ohio State
University and his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati.
A Registered Professional Engineer, he is a fellow of ASTM, past Chairman of Committee
E-9 on Fatigue, past Chairman and life member of ASM International, and a member of
the International Committee for Shot Peening. In recognition for his contributions
to the advancement of shot peening, Dr. Cammett was awarded Shot Peener of the Year
in 2006 at the 16th annual Shot Peening and Blast Cleaning Workshop. |
Gregg Caprez
Industrial Technologies, Inc. |
Founder and President of Industrial Technologies Inc. Gregg has spent the last ten years at I.T.
advancing and improving masking used in the spot peening , vapor blast and grit blast industries. He
has worked on and made improvements in the masking of parts to relieve Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Gregg
has designed and is named on a patent used to mask sputtering targets for semiconductors. The masks
are used on a robotic line to protect targets during grit and arc spray. Some of the other items invented
are acid masks for the air-foil industry and two durometer urethane masks to protect special coated parts.
I.T. has also designed and invented specialized masking used in the medical instrument industry as well
as general peening. |
Jack Champaigne Electronics Inc. |
Jack Champaigne is President of Electronics Incorporated (EI), a manufacturer of products
that improve the quality and control of shot peening and blast cleaning processes and sponsor
of the shot peening and blast cleaning workshops. Mr. Champaigne invented the MagnaValve, a
magnetic media valve, and has 13 more patents relating to shot peening control technology.
Mr. Champaigne has contributed to the advancement of shot peening throughout his career by
volunteering his time to the International Committee on Shot Peening, the Surface Enhancement
Division of SAE and the Aerospace Metals Engineering Committee of the Aerospace Materials
Division of the Society of Automotive Engineers (AMEC). In 1996, he was Chairmen of the
International Conference on Shot Peening (ICSP6) which was held in San Francisco, California.
He currently holds the position of Committee Chairman of the Surface Enhancement Division of
SAE. In January 2008, Mr. Champaigne founded a new shot peening sub-committee of AMEC and,
as Chairmen, is presiding over a group of international industry leaders in the pursuit of
updating and creating specifications that will be relevant to today's shot peening industries.
Mr. Champaigne graduated from Purdue University with a BSEE degree in 1968 and has worked
in the shot peening industry since the inception of Electronics Incorporated in 1978. In
addition to marketing a product line used worldwide to control shot peening and blast
cleaning processes, EI is committed to education and the sharing of information. EI
hosted the first shot peening workshop in 1991 and continues to sponsor innovative shot
peening and blast cleaning workshops in Asia, Europe and North America. EI provides
on-site shot peening and testing programs and was the first training company to receive
FAA recognition. Since 1986, EI has published The Shot Peener magazine. It features
technical articles, new applications for the processes, and product and services
profiles. It is read in 85 countries. In 1995, EI launched an extensive online library
devoted to shot peening and blast cleaning and is now the largest single source for
research papers and articles.
Mr. Champaigne's experience and thorough understanding of the history, theory,
specifications, and practical applications of shot peening give workshop and on-site
training participants an invaluable understanding of the process. |

Dave Cook Eagle Canyon Raceway |
In 1987, after completing his Mechanical Engineering and Workshop Processes education at Guildford Technical
College in England and his 5 year apprenticeship as a machine toolmaker, David Cook immigrated to the United
States of America.
David started work with General Dynamics and progressed into the management of other aerospace companies,
eventually becoming the General Manager of the Texas Division of Metal Improvement Company. In 1982, with
his peening experience from MIC and the peen forming background he gained from previous work at his Grandfather’s
manufacturing company in England, David started the first of 8 companies. His main company, NMF Global,
now Sonaca NMF, would eventually dominate the jet market in wing forming and manufacturing.
David has received many awards in the aerospace industry including Entrepreneur of the Year and CEO of
one of the 50 best companies in Canada.
Since selling 80% of his business to Sonaca in November of 2003, he has devoted his time to fulfilling a
life time ambition of building a Formula One/Indy style race track near Dallas-Fort Worth. He speaks
frequently on international business in the aerospace industry and actively consults on his second passion,
shot peen forming. |
Jeff Derda Electronics Inc. |
Jeff is the Operations Manager at Electronics Inc. He is a graduate of Purdue University with a degree
in Mechanical Engineering. Jeff has been involved with both the plastics and bearings industries. He has over
18 years experience in metal working and metal processing along with a background in metallurgy and metal treating.
He was previously employed as Engineering Manager for divisions of Torrington Bearings, SKF Bearings, and RBC. |
Dan Dickey Innovative Peening Systems |
In 1983 Dan graduated from Southwest Missouri State University Graduate School of Business.
He was introduced to shot peening in 1983. Dan has developed and managed Innovative Peening Systems, a shot
peen equipment manufacturing facility, from 1993 to 2000. In 2000 Dan purchased Innovative Peening Systems
from his employer. Using a blasting method, Dan and Innovative Peening Systems developed a coating removal
system for NASA on flight hardware and The Space Shuttle solid rocket booster nozzles. In 2003 Innovative
Peening Systems opened a shot peening job shop in Atlanta GA. |
Dan Diverty Wheelabrator Group |
Dan joined Wheelabrator Canada in 1974 as a member of the engineering group, later he
became supervisor of the drawing office between the years 1975 to 1978. He joined the Wheelabrator Canada
sales team in 1978 as a Territory Representative. Dan graduated through the sales force as the Product Manager
of Wheel Blast Cleaning and Peening areas of the Wheelabrator Business. In 1999 through the reorganization of
the BCP Wheelabrator Group, Dan was assigned the duties of Peening Manager for North America. |
Case Ferguson Farr APC |
Case Ferguson graduated with honors from The University of Alabama in 1998 with a degree in
International Business, minoring in Chinese (attending Feng Jia University in Tai Zhong, Taiwan),
and has been attended graduate level Business Management classes at The University of Colorado at Denver.
For eight years Case was employeed as a regional sales manager for the Bratney company, offering engineering,
construction services and representingp various lines of dry, bulk solid material processing and packaging
equipment. For the past year and a half Case has been employeed with Farr APC, first as a Regional Manager
and now as the OEM Account Manager for Farr. Farr APC provides cartridge dust collection equipment for four
core focus markets: blasting, thermal/ flame spray, laser/plasma cutting and the woodworking industries. |
Sylvain Forgues Shockform Inc. |
President of Shockform Inc., Montreal, Quebec. Sylvain obtained his degree in Mechanical
Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 1990 followed by a Master`s degree in Applied Mechanics
from the École Polytechnique de Montréal. In his Master`s degree, he studied the beneficial
effects of coldworking through 3D non-linear finite element analysis, residual stress measurement by
x-ray diffraction and experimental fatigue testing. He started his career at Bombardier Aerospace in
Research and Development and working on the Aircraft Structural Integrity Program (ASIP) of the CF-18.
After 5 years, he transferred to the commercial side where he was in charge of structural in-service
issues for the fuselage of the CRJ-200 fleet. In 2002, he became Section Chief of the R&D, Robotics
and Software department at L-3 MAS where his team developed and marketed an on-aircraft robotic shot
peening system used on the CF-18 and on the CRJ-700. During his 15 years working on fatigue life
improvement techniques, Sylvain has published several papers and has presented his work at numerous
conferences. Sylvain has more recently formed his own company, Shockform Incorporated, which provides
innovative fatigue life improvement technologies to companies in Aerospace, Energy and Transportation.
Shockform has signed, among others, an exclusive agreement with Sonats S.A. to market Stressonic®
Ultrasonic Activated Shot Peening technology in North America. |
Jim Funke
|
Jim graduated from GMI Engineering & Management Institute in December 2000 with a dual
Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. During his studies there
worked as a co-op student at Ford Motor Company. At Ford, Jim worked primarily in Manufacturing Engineering
and did his undergraduate thesis on Shot Peening of Suspension Coil Springs. After this Jim studied abroad
in Germany for two years at the Fachhochschule für Technik Esslingen. There he completed his Master of
Science degree in Automotive Engineering and wrote his graduate thesis at Mercedes-Benz in the field of
Vehicle Dynamics. Jim is employed by Dynamic Research Incorporated. |
Bob Gillespie Premier Shot Company |
Founder and President of Premier Shot Company, Bob graduated in 1966 from Cleveland
State University. Majoring in Metallurgy, he has over thirty years experience directly involved in the
field of shot peening and blasting media. He spent seventeen years at Metal Improvement Company, serving
as Manager of Technical Services and Division Manager of their Cincinnati Division and later as Director
of Research and Development for the corporate office in Paramus, NJ. In 1988 he founded Premier Shot
Company and has been involved in all aspects of shot peening from processing of parts to design and
development of computer controlled shot peening equipment. Premier Shot Company manufactures high
quality conditioned cut wire media for use in critical shot peening processes and also provides services
such as complete shot evaluation and introduction of new technology items which involve Image Analysis
for automatic inspection of shot peening media. |

Sales Manager for Saint-Gobain Zirpro in North America for the past 7 years. Jeff
has been affiliated with Zirpro for the last 14 years. Jeff received a B.A. from Indiana University-Bloomington
in 1989. Since 1990, Jeff has worked in the surface treatment industry with experience in mass finishing,
parts washing, abrasive blasting and shot peening. Currently he resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina with
his wife Annette and their two children Jeff Jr. and Claire. |

a graduate of the University of Kansas. He has worked at Metal Improvement for 16 years in both marketing
and production. Areas of expertise include Lasershotsm peening, shot peening, peen forming and heat treat
processing of metal parts. Prior to working for MIC, Jim worked for Learjet and the Coleman Co. of Wichita.
In his spare time he prepares and races a 1972 Corvette in Sports Car Club of America solo events and hacks

Millan Herce is a Mining Professional Engineer graduating from Universite Laval in
2000. Since graduating from Universite Laval Millan has worked for Atlas Copco as a swellex
product specialist. For the past three years Millan has been employed with Camfil Farr
supplying dust collection equipment in the blasting, welding and woodworking industries. |
Jim Hetrick Airex Rubber |
Jim Hetrick in part owner of Airex Rubber Products Corp., which was started by his grandfather in 1943.
Airex specializes in rubber and rubber/metal masking for shot peen, grit blast, vibratory finish, plasma
spray, HVOF, powder coating and plating processes. The company services customers in the aerospace, oil
exploration, medical, automotive and solenoid valve industries on a world-wide basis.
As a third-generation owner of a family business, Jim has grown up in the rubber industry, and is well
equipped to answer almost any question you may have about rubber and masking.im has been in the business
for over twenty years.

Ken I'Anson Progressive Technologies |
Sales Engineer for Progressive Technologies. Ken has been involved in the shot peening
industry from the equipment side for 30 years. Ken has contributed many articles and papers that have been
used in the Shot Peener Workshop Manual and has attended the Workshops since the beginning in 1990. Ken has
held positions over the years with Wheelabrator Corporation, Blast Cleaning Products (BCP), Blastworks Inc.,
US Filter and Progressive Technologies. His experience is unique in that it has covered both centrifugal
wheel peening and compressed air nozzle peening. Ken's present focus is on airframe and land based turbine
shot peening applications.
Ken was also crowned the 2007 Shot Peener of the Year the annual EI Shot Peening
& Blast Cleaning Workshop of that year. |
Mark Ingram Electronics Inc. |
In 1983 Mark received and Electronics Degree at ITT Technical Institute. Upon
graduation Mark went to Crown International as a line technician later moving to an engineering
department. In 1987 Mark joined Eneractive Group to design DC to AC converters for the RV Industry
along with many other electronic devices for the industry. In 1990 Mark joined Electronics
Incorporated and began doing test and repair work in house and in the field. It was through
this work that Mark gained experience and knowledge about the shot peening industry and has
gone on to design new products for the industry. |

Sylvain Jetté recently joined Grand Northern Products and is representing them in eastern Canada.

Russ Kuc
Astech Inc. |
Russ Kuc dedicated virtually his entire working career to field sales in the shotblast industry.
Prior to his graduating from Indiana University with a Business Degree in finance, Russ accepted a
position in customer service at Wheelabrator. Quickly moving up and became the youngest sales
engineer in the company, Russ held positions in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and culminated his career
back in Mishawaka where it all began.
Recently retired from the company he held in highest regard, Russ has now continued with his
successful 30 plus years in the blast cleaning industry and recently organized SHOTBLAST
SERVICE & SUPPLY. His new venture intends to offer the midwest market an independent
alternative to traditional field service. |
Brigitte Labelle Shockform Inc. |
Brigitte started her career at Bell Helicopter after completing her Bachelors degree in Business
Administration. She worked with clients and suppliers for a number of years until she moved to
Innotech Aviation where she managed the contracts for the completion of Bombardier 604 Business Jet.
Brigitte first got involved in Shot Peening at L-3 MAS where she worked with Engineering to find a
ceramic bead reclaiming solution for their robotic shot peening activities. She later went on to
negotiate a major contract with Bombardier Aerospace for the on-aircraft robotic shot peening of
several aircraft in their fleet.
Brigitte is co-founder of Shockform Inc. where she is in charge of Business Development. For
the last two years, she has been heavily involved in the North American Sales and Marketing of
Ultrasonic peening applications and the distribution of EI Products in Quebec. When she is not
on the phone discussing applications with clients or in the lab sharing her ideas with the
development team, you will find Brigitte at Trade Shows, Exhibits or Conferences. |
Chris Long
Electronics Incorporated |
Chris Long is a graduate of the Purdue College of Technology with a degree in Electrical Engineering
Technology. Prior to joining the Engineering Department at EI, Chris was a Test Engineer for Audiovox
Specialized Applications. Chris’s responsibilities at E.I. include writing and revising the documentation
of EI products. Chris also troubleshoots and repairs the various controllers in the EI inventory. Chris
spends his spare time enjoying the company of his wife and son. |
Dwight E. Lutsko
Lutsko Industrial Sales |
Dwight E. Lutsko, Technical Sales, Lutsko Industrial Sales, LLC. Dwight started in the metal
finishing business in 1975, with vibratory finishing, air blasting machines, and jobbing work for
customers that needed finishing of their manufactured parts. He has 30 plus years of experience
in Mass finishing and Blasting and has been a specialized instructor since Electronics Incorporated
organized the very first of many Peening Workshops. |

Mat is the Director of Development Engineering for the Pangborn Corporation. Prior to
his current position at Pangborn, Mat worked as a Mechanical Engineer and R&D Manager for
Wheelabrator Group N.A., where he was responsible for the development of the EZEFIT line of
wheels. Mat holds a BSME from McNeese State University in Louisiana. |
Dr. Michael Massarsky Turbo-Finish Corporation |
Currently President of Turbo-Finish Corporation, Baare, MA 01005,
michael@turbofinish.com. He is the Inventor and developer of the Turbo-Abrasive Machining
Process and has been involved in abrasive process development for over thirty years.
Experience includes work as research scientist and laboratory management at the Leningrad
Abrasives and Grinding Institute in the former Soviet Union. He also started and maintained
a private company in Russia to proliferate his Turbo-Finish technology. Oversaw
implementation of Turbo-Finish Technology in hundreds of installation throughout the
former Soviet Union including installations in the aerospace, nuclear, automotive, gear,
bearing, ceramic and electronic industries. Has worked to see the adoption of Turbo-Finish
technology in American aerospace companies such as General Electric, Honeywell, Rolls Royce
and Smith Aerospace. He holds a doctoral degree from the Leningrad Polytechnic University,
and is the author of numerous technical papers and articles in both the former Soviet Union
and the United States.

Joe McGreal Ervin Industries |
Joe McGreal graduated from St. Ambrose University in 1987 with a BA in Business
Administration and Marketing. The past 14 years have been dedicated to abrasive blast cleaning, shot
peening and factory automation. Joe has extensive experience in both compressed air and rotary wheel
blast cleaning and peening systems. He has experience involving all blasting granules with a primary
emphasis on carbon steel and stainless steel blasting media. In 1999 he joined Ervin Industries, Ann
Arbor, MI., as a Technical Sales Representative in the Midwest region. Joe has since been promoted
to Midwest Regional Sales Manager. |
Daryll McKinley Goodrich Aerostructures |
Mr. McKinley is currently employed as a design engineer in the aerospace industry and also
serves as a consultant engineer. His engineering experience includes mechanical design, test and
evaluation, metallurgical failure analysis, materials processing, and aerospace and automotive
accident investigations. Approximately 15 years ago, he developed a shotpeen artisan training
program for the Naval Aviation Depot in Pensacola, Florida. Other U.S. Navy maintenance depots
as well as commercial activities adopted this training program. Mr. McKinley was a committee
member of the International Conference on Shot Peening 6 held in San Francisco, California.
He serves as a consultant to Electronics, Inc. and participates in their workshops.
He is a Registered Professional Engineer and received his BS in Mechanical
Engineering and MS in Materials Engineering from Auburn University. |
Mark Nicholson Potters Industries |
Mark graduated from Bethany College in 1973 with BA degree then he graduated from
University of Dayton in 1977 with a Masters degree in Administration and Management. Prior to Potters
Industries, Mark spent 3 years with Vestal Laboratories marketing laboratory and surgical components to
Hospitals. Mark has been with Potters 26 years covering most of the Midwest with sales and marketing
of glass beads for shot peening and metal surface treatments. Mark also helped to develop and patent
a centrifugal process to deliver glass beads without using compressed air. |
Alan K. Nudelman Composition Materials |
Alan graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Industrial and Mechanical
Engineering. His career was with IBM in Marketing and business management. Alan attended the Graduate
School of Business Administration at the University of Connecticut while working for IBM, in Westchester
County, New York. In 1988 Mr. Nudelman became President of Composition Materials Company. Composition
Materials Company has become a major producer of Plastic Blasting Media (Plasti-Grit) and other abrasives.
Today CMC distributes abrasives, masking systems, fillers and extenders for both industrial and consumer
product areas. Composition Materials distributes its products through the well known names in geographic
distribution both domestically and in overseas markets. CMC’s newest product area SpeedMask brings Alan
to this workshop. |
James Pineault Proto Manufacturing |
James Pineault is Director of the Measurement Services Division at Proto Manufacturing. A
graduate in Physics from the University of Waterloo, Mr. Pineault has over 15 years experience at
Proto and has supervised many residual stress measurement projects for customers in numerous
sectors such as: defense, aerospace, automotive, infrastructure, energy and medical. He has been
deeply involved in system improvements and new product development projects including the MGR40
goniometer for measuring residual stress on the Space Shuttle Main Engine. Mr. Pineault has
authored or co-authored numerous scientific papers on XRD applications and the measurement and
analysis of residual stress. |
Greg Rabel - |
Unfortunately, Greg is no longer with us. He had worked for Midwestern Industries as a
Sales Engineer for 22 years. We appreciate the time we were able to spend with Greg both as
a business associate and as a friend. |
Terry Reckart OBS Sales & Consulting |
From 1973 through 1979 he did a stint in the United States Navy aboard nuclear powered fleet ballistic
submarines. Following the Navy he spent 14 years as a nuclear power plant “Startup Engineer”. In 1995 he
went to work for W.S. Tyler in Mentor, Ohio as the Quality Control Manager and in short time, became involved
in a new photo optical particle analysis technology. In 1998 Terry became Product Manager for the Computerized
Particle Analyzer (CPA). In 2005 Terry left W.S. Tyler and started his own company OSB Sales and Consulting. |
Dominique Schwab Wheelabrator Sisson Lehmann |
General Manager of ISPC Wheelabrator Sisson Lehmann, Charleville-Mézières, France, Dominique
graduated Senior Engineer from French “Grande Ecole d’Ingénieur”. He started in Peugeot as a project manager
and he joined Promecam Sisson Lehmann in 1984 as an Automation Engineering Manager. He counts twenty years of
experience in peening process and equipment manufacturing. His responsibilities include the product manufacturing
and development, the worldwide sales of airblast shot peening machines in aerospace and automotive industries
within International Surface Preparation Group. |
Jerry Sheyka Abrasive Blast Equipment Services |
President of Abrasive Blast Equipment Services, LLC, South Bend, IN., Jerry received his B.S.M.E from
University of New Mexico in 1966 and his M.B.A from the University of Notre Dame in 1979. He was an engineer
for Dodge Manufacturing prior to joining Wheelabrator Corporation and in 1987 became President of EMI, Inc.
2005 became President of A.B.E.S., LLC a full service consulting company specializing in installation of Shot
Blast Equipment (new, used & rebuilt), Dust Collection Equipment (design and installation) and many Technical
Services including in-plant equipment rebuilds. |
Bob Schoen |
Previously with ISPC Wheelabrator, Bob oversaw new equipment installation and aftermarket field service
throughout North America. He worked closely with the Maintenance and Engineering departments to develop
Maintenance programs and Process improvements for Wheel Peening and Cleaning equipment. |
Michael A. Sorenson Boeing, (BCAG) |
Michael Sorenson serves as Project Manager for the Boeing Commercial Airplane Group (BCAG). A Montana
native, Michael has been employed by the Seattle area Boeing Company since the mid 1980s. His first years
were spent as a manufacturing engineer at one of Boeing’s detail part manufacturing shops. From 1992-2004,
he worked as a process engineer with primary areas of shop responsibility in supporting the shot peen,
processing and assembly areas. He led efforts in lean improvements, documentation, coordinating shot peen
work, new shot peen machines purchases and training. In early 2004, Michael accepted a position in Renton
as a Project Manager in the Production Engineering group, leading efforts within BCAG for simplified
process specifications. He also serves as the BCAG Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert for the shot
peen process. Michael resides in Federal Way, WA, with his wife Diane, his son Luke and step-daughter
Kiki.
Degrees: B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Minor in Industrial & Management
Engineering from Montana State University, 1986.

Dan Spinner Superior Shot Peening |
After completing his education in chemistry at The University of Cincinnati in 1968, Dan worked
as a chemist in chemical metallurgy for GE Jet Engine in Evendale, Ohio. He was recruited by
Wheelabrator in late 1972, and began his career in surface prep and treatment where he was very
active working with the automotive industry in shot peening. Over the years he has held positions
with major surface preparation companies and suppliers to the foundry industry where he increased his
knowledge of metal treatments. In 2002 he joined Applied Ultrasonics to promote a new ultrasonic
impact technology (UIT) that improves fatigue life significantly over peening. In 2007, Dan joined
forces with Superior Shot Peening to assist in the base business of metal treatments for fatigue,
corrosion, and stress corrosion abatement, and to add UIT to the line of treatments that Superior provides. |
Herb Tobben Clemco Industries |
Technician and Sample Processing Lab Manager; Technical Services Group, Marketing Department,
Clemco Industries Corp., Washington, Missouri. Herb has managed the company’s Sample Processing operations in
support of its ZERO engineered manual and automated cabinet product line for more than 30 years. He joined
ZERO in 1970 and, over the course of his career, has held a number of managerial positions in production,
research & development, and technical areas. Currently, among his other duties, Herb manages the Sample
Processing Laboratory, working to develop surface finishing, shot peening, and surface preparation solutions
for the company’s domestic and international customers. Herb conducts training, contributes to industry
publications, and is known in the industry for his broad experience and technical expertise. |
Jim Whalen Progressive Technologies |
Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Progressive Technologies. Jim has been involved
with the shot peening process for over 17 years. Upon receiving his BSME he joined General Electric and
held several positions in both the Corporate Manufacturing Management Program and the Manufacturing
Technology laboratory (MTL) within GE Aircraft Engines. He gained shot peening expertise by developing
new peening processes, tooling analytical analysis and inspection tools, and equipment to peen critical
aircraft engine components. Jim was instrumental in introducing NC peening to GE’s production division by
specifying and installing new equipment, NC peening methods and operator training. During these assignments
Jim also received a MSME from the University of Cincinnati. Jim has also had the distinguished honor of
being part of their team named the 1993 “Shot Peener of the Year”. In 1994, Jim left GE to join Progressive
Technologies as Manager of Process Engineering. In this position, Jim developed and enhanced Progressive’s
process experience to aid in the design and build of industry leading peening, blasting, and water jet
machine tools. |
Holly Williams Electronics Inc. |
Holly formerly worked for Power Components as a production supervisor and later
joined Specialty Heat Treating as a Quality Control agent. In 2000 Holly joined Electronics Incorporated
with her primary responsibilities being Certification and Quality Control of EI products; however Holly
also oversees production and calibration of EI’s Almen Products and MagnaValves. |
